Prosthetic Hand Building Workshop

Creating life-changing prosthetic hands for people living with limb loss.

The Experience

This powerful hands-on volunteering experience brings teams together to build functional prosthetic hands for people living with limb loss in developing communities. Guided by an interactive presentation, participants learn about the global need before working in small teams to construct the devices from scratch. To build empathy and understanding, participants complete the activity using only one hand. Delegates will experience firsthand the everyday challenges faced by amputees. Each completed prosthetic is quality checked and prepared for distribution, transforming teamwork into a life-changing outcome.

Experience In Action

Why This Experience Matters?

Around the world, hundreds of thousands of people live with upper limb loss due to landmines, accidents, conflict, or medical conditions. In many low-income regions, prosthetic devices are either unavailable or unaffordable, often costing thousands of dollars. Without a functional hand, everyday tasks such as eating, working, or caring for family become extremely difficult. These durable, mechanical prosthetic hands provide an affordable, practical solution that restores independence, enables employment, and helps recipients participate fully in their communities. Each device represents more than mobility: it creates opportunity, dignity, and a pathway to a more independent future.
